Company culture part five: Showing your healthcare employees that you care

Give and you shall receive

Last week, we talked about how to give your employees a sense of purpose in a hospital setting with achievable goals, recognition, and internal feedback. However, some employees may be looking for tangible acknowledgment such as benefits.

The hottest companies right now offer their employees unlimited vacation time, free lunches, rooftop parties and cover their gym expenses. Because of the nature of the healthcare industry, it’s not realistic to provide extravagant benefits like these to your internal teams. However, there are other ways to make employees feel comfortable, appreciated, and safe in their work environments.

How to take action:

  • Publicly recognize employees who meet goals or do something extraordinary
  • Plan a group outing to a local sporting event or community theater
  • Provide free access to any of your facility owned gyms or hold in-house fitness classes such as yoga or Zumba
  • Step-up your cafeteria game by offering alternative, healthy foods

Next week, we will talk about transparency at your hospital or health system. How can your organization make sure it’s creating an open and honest environment? Find out in the next installment of our company culture blog post series.
