New healthcare campaign promotes exercise and a mustache

The Movember Foundation isn’t just about growing a mustache; so get moving

They call it the “hairiest month of the year,” and this year might get hairier. Movember is an international campaign that raises awareness about men’s health by asking men to grow mustaches during the month of November. Since its inception in 2003, the Movember Foundation has earned an extensive following and raised over $649 million to help raise awareness about prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and physical inactivity among men.

The organization isn’t just asking men to grow out their facial hair this year either. This year, it’s challenging men and women to get moving, too. For each day of the month, the foundation encourages its participants to take 30 minutes out of their day and dedicate it to some physical activity such as a brisk walk, a game of pingpong or a bike ride.

According to the foundation, physical inactivity is one of the leading risk factors for global mortality, causing 3.2 million deaths per year.

Movember, and other awareness building campaigns can be great opportunities for healthcare marketers to piggyback some wellness messaging into their inbound content stream. If you choose to move this Movember, not only will you raise awareness about the issues impeding men to live happier and healthier lives, but also it will help you keep track of your fitness goals and stay in shape this Thanksgiving.
