The rewards of great healthcare advertising

Ellis Maternity campaign named finalist in Ragan’s Marketing Awards

After nine years working on other projects, I’m very excited to be back with the great team at Smith & Jones. There are familiar faces, veterans of the agency world, and new team members with whom I’ve never worked, but one thing hasn’t changed: we’re still winning awards for the great work we create for our healthcare clients.

We recently submitted our work for Ellis Medicine in Ragan’s first annual Health Care PR and Marketing Awards and I’m humbled to announce that we were chosen as finalists in two categories: Best Interview Video and Best Photography (Print or Electronic Publication).

The winners have not been announced yet, but it is great to see our work selected from more than 300 entries, competing against healthcare leaders such as Mayo Clinic and Baylor Health Care System, and marketing firms including Ogilvy Public Relations and Fleishman-Hillard.

Both the print and video entries were from the Ellis Medicine 2012 maternity campaign for Bellevue Woman’s Center, titled Woman2Woman Conversations, and featured new mom Jennifer Bergeron.

The stunning photo above was chosen as a finalist in Best Photography and depicts Bergeron and her infant daughter, Renzi, in a yoga studio. It appeared in a local print publication and display advertisements.

In the candid video interview, Bergeron explains why she decided to have her baby at Bellevue and praised the woman’s hospital for giving her the options that allowed her to be in control of her daughter’s birth. A natural birth and midwife delivery were very important to Bergeron and unavailable at other local hospitals.

The long-form video appeared on the Ellis Medicine website, with a thirty-second version on broadcast and cable television, and can be viewed here in our Video of the Week: Maternity Marketing.

Whether we win these awards or not, we’re proud of the work that our clients help us create, through their commitment and creativity. And no matter how long I’m involved in this industry, these are still the greatest rewards in healthcare marketing.
