Google recently gave a $2.3M donation to CareMessage, a non-profit text-messaging group that builds campaigns for physicians to deploy for patients with medical conditions. The donation was through Google.org’s Impact Awards and will help fund further development of the product.

CareMessage’s goal is to provide literacy and support for medical conditions such as diabetes, COPD, cognitive heart failure, cancer and women’s health. The campaigns encourage behavior change through self-management tools.

Eighty providers in 16 states are using CareMessage to serve more than 200,000 patients, a 50% increase in only nine months. The company plans to further strengthen its API and develop integrations with EMR systems.

Would your hospital consider using text messaging to educate patients and help them manage chronic illnesses?
