Mobile medical applications #1: iPad Check-In

New software streamlines check-in and co-pay processing

The meteoric rise in use of smart phones and tablets, as well as the introduction of extremely low power Bluetooth 4.0, will cause a dramatic increase in how mobile devices will be utilized by the healthcare industry. Mobile devices are already being adopted for use in entering and reading test results, managing appointments, searching for physicians, mobile stat monitoring and many other facets of healthcare.

In this series, I would like to introduce some of the mobile medical devices and applications that aim to change the way the healthcare industry works.

iPad Check-In

The first application deals with streamlining the check-in process to make it more efficient as well as adding an easy way to pay co-pays at the time of service. The iPad Check-In software being developed by Intuit Health due for release sometime in the middle of 2012 uses an add-on card scanner for the patient to swipe a credit card or driver’s license for identification and to auto-populate their information after initial entry.
