Ragan’s Healthcare Communicators Conference leaves an impression

What we learned from leaders of the healthcare marketing industry

Healthcare marketing professionals gathered at Johns Hopkins Hospital this week to do what they do best — network.

The Ragan’s Health Care Communicators Conference in Baltimore, MD was more than an opportunity to meet and mingle with thought leaders of the industry. The conference also gave light to the future of digital, social and traditional media communications. Guest speakers, such as Smith & Jones President Dave Vener, dished on topics such as marketing automation, hospital marketing videos and the success of storytelling.

If you didn’t get a chance to go, don’t fear.

Ragan Communications compiled a list of takeaways, in case you missed them. Vener’s presentation was one of seven that made the cut.

Takeaways:

1. In-house marketing videos need to include personable, down to earth doctors—not scripted work.

2. Because reporters use social media at a rapid pace, be open and timely with them in the event of a communications crisis.

3. Content should be relatable to the hospital and its surrounding community.

4. Social media allows for the distribution of fresh and original content.

5. Marketing automation helps grow and curate relationships with prospective clients.

6. Inviting reporters to hospital events boosts employee moral and allows for exposure across several social networks.

7. Storytelling works because emotion trumps numbers.
